The Best White Paint Colors for Every Space

Not all white paints are created equal and choosing the right white paint can be a difficult task. Depending on your lighting, paint undertones, and finishes, the process of choosing white paint can feel daunting. Luckily, we have used and sampled dozens of white paints and have narrowed our white paints down to a list of 6 favorites that we think work well in almost any space.

We have divided our favorites into cool, warm, and neutral tones for you to make your selection even easier! Read on to see examples and make your selection.

NEUTRAL TONE

Simply White: Benjamin Moore

If you’re looking for a bright, fresh white but you don’t want the coolness of Chantilly Lace, then Simply White is for you. Simply White is a bright white with a tiny hint of yellow undertones. It looks good on just about anything: walls, trim, ceiling, cabinetry, you name it! If you’re nervous about going too creamy or too blue, Simply White is a classic white that just can’t go wrong.

NEUTRAL TONE

White Dove: Benjamin Moore

This shade of white is creamy yet bright with grey undertones that earns a spot in the Neutral category. White Dove is known to reflect light beautifully and create a calming effect. We love to use this white in areas with lots of natural light. It’s not pure white, but it will never read beige or grey.

NEUTRAL TONE

Alabaster: Sherwin Williams

This shade of white is a soft, neutral off-white with a hint of warmth and grey. It’s calming which is perfect for bedrooms and pairs well with bright white trim.

WARM TONE

Swiss Coffee: Benjamin Moore

Just as the name suggests, Swiss Coffee is a creamy, smooth white that’s incredibly calming and welcoming. Swiss Coffee is great in traditional spaces or areas that need extra warmth.

WARM TONE

Cloud White: Benjamin Moore

If you’re looking for a creamy white that’s not too yellow, Cloud White does the trick. Great for a north-facing room, Cloud White will never read cool or stark, and will always feel fresh and inviting.

COOL TONE

Chantilly Lace: Benjamin Moore

Chantilly Lace is a bright, clean white that reads fresh and modern. It’s a pure white that is perfect for minimal and Scandinavian spaces.

Paint Finishes

Now that you’ve decided on your color, you need to pick a finish. Here is what we recommend:

Ceiling: Flat

Walls: Matte (Cleanable)

Bathrooms: Matte for Wet Areas or Eggshell. Eggshell is great for high-traffic areas because it’s easier to clean but has a very low sheen.

Trim: Satin or semi-gloss. The subtle sheen difference between the trim and the walls will add dimension.

Cabinets: Satin or Eggshell. We like a matte look, but cabinets need to be cleaned regularly.
